A drone work in just intonation for many electric guitars. This piece is in three sections that flow into one another. Section 1 emphasizes harmonics 12, 14, 21 (each doubled at the unison and higher octave); Section 2 emphasizes 33, 11, 13; Section 3 emphasizes 10, 9 and 8. (Harmonics 12, 14 and 21 recur throughout the entire piece.) Base = 30 Hz. Sound is produced by tapping strings with a chopstick as near as possible to the bridge. This minimalist work uses almost pure sinewaves, gently crossing their frequencies, to create lulling soundscapes.
Almost pure sinewaves, because the little variations turning around the main frequency of each note gives the necessary feeling of movement to the release.
~60 Hz is a calm and peaceful album that demanding sound purists will absolutely love, and if you liked it, I advise you to complete your experience with Frequencies (A/Fragments) by Nicolas Bernier, composed with tuning forks. Dotflac
Absolutely love this recording. I listen to it at work. I listen to it in the car on the way home from work. I listen to it while falling asleep. Curtis’ cello is so amazing. Just got the vinyl in the mail from Discogs the other day! Can’t wait to play on my hi-fi system! Dave Sewall
